The City completed a comprehensive report in 2011 that studied 14 railroad crossings and developed a plan for eliminating train horn noise at those locations. The most cost effective solution for the 55th Street location included acquisition of property and to close the crossing.
The scope of work includes installation of a 72-inch drainage culvert, located approximately 1,700 feet south of the intersection, to allow maintenance vehicles to cross a small channel that discharges into Mill Creek.
