On April 30th, 2014, the Police Department Smart Policing Initiative (SPI) research team presented the results of their three year study of Data Driven Approaches to Crime and Traffic Safety (DDACTS) initiative at the SPI 2014 National Meeting in Washington, D.C.
Shawnee, a Phase III SPI grant site, was asked to present the results of their successful research project to newly awarded Phase V grant sites. Presenting at the national meeting were Police Chief Larry Larimore, Research and Analysis Manager Greg Collins, and Crime Analyst Josie Villa.
The Police Department partnered with Dr. Kevin Bryant who is a Professor of Criminology at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas.
Smart Policing grants are intended to encourage partnerships between law enforcement and members of the research community to conduct research on innovative, evidence-based, crime reduction strategies.

A final report documenting the research will be completed soon.
