The information provided in the links below is based on information gathered from police reports, not calls to location (called "Calls for Service"). This means the data comes from actual police reports made with the Shawnee Police Department. While considered reliable and accurate, the data does not come from the police department's official database. Rather, it comes from the crime analysis unit who commonly re-classifies information for analysis purposes, rather than official purposes. For example, in a domestic situation where the ex-spouse breaks in to his/her former home and steals photographs of the couple's children, the official records would reflect the incident as a "burglary." However, for analysis purposes, it is analyzed as a domestic situation and therefore would not be included in the data provided below under "burglary." No domestic reports are included in the map.
The information that is provided below includes information on: robbery (stealing from a person or business with the threat of violence if the victim does not comply), commercial burglary (breaking into a business after hours with the intent to steal items from within), residential burglary (breaking into a home with the intent to steal items from within - most often when no one is home.
NOTE: entering an open garage and stealing items from the garage, whether or not the residents are home, is considered a residential burglary), auto theft (stealing a vehicle), auto burglary (stealing items from a vehicle, whether or not it was locked) and vandalism (damaging public or private property) are included on this map. NOTE: Stranger murder and stranger rape are not included because they are virtually nonexistent in Shawnee.

To view a Map file, click on a file name.
Depending on the Internet Browser you are using and its settings, one of the following could occur:
- The KMZ file will be automatically saved to your PC and opened. Google Earth will open and zoom to the extent of the map file.
- The file will be saved to your PC and the file location will open in a window. Click on the .kmz file name. You might be prompted to Open or Cancel the file, select Open. Google Earth will open and fly to the extent of the file.
- You will be prompted to Save or Cancel the file. Select Save the file. Once the file is saved to your PC, open the file and Google Earth will zoom to the map extent.
- If the file ask you to save as a zip file, select Save, and save to a location on your computer (i.e. desktop) and then rename .zip file to .kmz (i.e. police_report.kmz). A rename box will appear asking you "if you are sure you want to change it?" click yes.
If you’re PC does not recognize the KMZ file type, it might prompt you for the correct program to open the file. Select Google Earth from the list of programs, or right click on the .kmz file and select Open file with and select Google Earth.
The KMZ map files are added to the Temporary Places folder in Google Earth. When you exit Google Earth, you will be prompted if you would like to save your temporary places folder. If you select yes, you can end up with multiple copies of the maps which can slow down the program.
